Visitors will go back in time to see what makes Burpee Museum a local treasure and unique among the country’s best natural history museums. The three-part exhibit will also highlight the work of Edward Curtis, a world famous ethnographer from Wisconsin known for his sepia-toned photographic images of Native Americans. The display will be complemented by many seldom seen Native American artifacts from the Burpee collection. The third segment of the exhibit is a unique array of wildlife from around the world. “Go Wild” is a wildlife conservation exhibit that depicts some amazing animals in lifelike settings. One of the highlights is the return of the crocodile. This gigantic specimen was a museum favorite in the Barnes Mansion for many years. In addition, the museum will display the artwork of a renowned local nature photographer, David Olson. burpee.org Burpee Museum of Natural History, 737 N Main St, Rockford, IL 61103, USA

All three of these works were written in America, but by composers of diverse backgrounds. The American-born Copland's Buckaroo Holiday instantly conjures up images of the historical American West, while virtuoso double bassist Edgar Meyer's captivating and touching Violin Concerto marries an earthy, folk-like feel with toe-tapping contemporary rhythms. Dvorak's Ninth Symphony, written during his American sojourn, embodies the inspiration he found in African-American spirituals and American Indian legends, as well as the musical heritage of his Czech homeland and the German symphonic tradition. As soon as those guitar strings were plucked and their soulful voices filled the air, everything we knew about blues was changed forever, and Blues on the Fox celebrates that monumental piece of history. For 21 years, blues musicians from across the world have gathered in Aurora to play their hearts out to blues-loving crowds in the thousands, and this year’s lineup is sure to get your head swaying and feet grooving. This year's line-up includes: Shemekia Copeland, Mavis Staples, Guy King Band, Devon Allman, Elvin Bishop and Jonny Lang. (See the RiverEdge web site for full concert line-up and details). Bring your friends and family to a hands-down perfect way to celebrate your country and everything it stands for. It all starts with the patriotic American Legion Band. These guys bleed red, white and blue and will have you swelling with pride listening to their incredible American standards, marches and more. Then we get a bit more contemporary with the 60-plus member Fox Valley Orchestra. You can expect anything and everything with this crew. From Top 40 hits to classics to your favorite movie scores, they know it all and play it all. Finally, the night ends in a breathtaking, jaw-dropping fireworks extravaganza that will blow your socks off and make you realize Aurora ain’t the City of Lights for nothing. Sounds great, right? That’s not all. We’ve got local food vendors and inflatables for the kids. The City of Aurora is also graciously providing free park and ride shuttle services from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., providing roundtrip transportation to 13 convenient locations throughout the city. The shuttles will resume service after the fireworks display with the latest departure set for 11 p.m. But wait! There’s even more! Before the fireworks start, be sure to take part in an attempt to create a world record for the most people head-banging to “Bohemian Rhapsody.” It’s going to be a rocking time! SCHEDULE: Park Opens at 3pm; American Legion Band at 6:15pm; Fox Valley Orchestra at 7:45pm and City of Aurora Fireworks at approximately 9:35pm. IMPORTANT! Coolers, food and drinks are welcome, but NO ALCOHOL is allowed in the Park. Food and drink vendors will be open during the concerts. No admission fee. Add to Calendar 08/25/2017 06:30 PM 08/25/2017 10:00 PM Get the LED Out @ RiverEdge Since 2015, Get the Led Out has been rocking audiences at RiverEdge Park, and this summer the boys are back for more of the same. The songs you know and love will be played to perfection and as you remember them, but don’t worry, these incredible rockers never repeat a show. Using six guys instead of four, Get the Led Out does something even Led Zeppelin couldn’t do: perform their songs live as they were heard on the studio albums. They are the only cover band out there that’s trying to “replicate those records,” lead singer Paul Sinclair said. From the first Led Zeppelin album to In Through the Out Door, their music is powerful, explosive, authentic and just flat out amazing. Although this is the third year they’ve played at RiverEdge Park, these guys are in demand and we can’t guarantee they’ll be back next year. With over 6,000 fans coming out to the park last year, we’re expecting this show to sell out. Get your tickets now for a musical experience you’ll never forget. Bring your lawn chair or a blanket to sit in the grass. Gates open at 6:30pm and concert starts at 8pm. Before your arrival, please read the RiverEdge Park policies. http://riveredgeaurora.com/visit/ RiverEdge Park, 360 N Broadway St, Aurora, IL 60505, USA
