  • Garfield Farm & Tavern Museum

    Garfield Farm and Tavern Museum is the only 374 acre historically intact former 1840s Illinois prairie farmstead and teamster inn being restored as an 1840s working farm. The 1846 brick inn, the 1842 hay and grain barn, and the 1849 horse barn survive in addition to remnant unplowed prairie, oak savanna and wetlands. Historic breeds of livestock and gardens are on display and tours and special events are offered through out the year. Volunteers and donors from over 3500 households and 37 states are working to restore and preserve this National Register site.

  • Lincoln Manahan Museum

    Abraham Lincoln, then 47, came to Sterling to speak at a rally for presidential candidate, John C. Fremont. On July 18, 1858, a twist of fate brought Mr. Lincoln to the home of Sherrif William Manahan to spend the night. He slept on a sofa with two chairs placed at its end to accommodate his long legs.
