Dutch Windmill

Manufactured in the Netherlands, and erected in Fulton by Dutch Craftsmen from Holland, this 90-foot-high operating windmill is a copy of the windmill at the Brabant town of Vorstenbach. Fulton celebrates its Dutch heritage with its annual Dutch Days Festival in early May. Open May - October, Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Plus Memorial Day - August, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and September, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fulton (Martin House) Museum

Home to Fulton's Historical Society, this museum features memorabilia and artifacts pertinent to Fulton's history. The civil war era home contains stained glass windows, walnut bench seating, and a walnut staircase. Great RiverTrail
A 62-mile long designated biking and hiking trail runs parallel to the Mississippi River from Rock Island, IL, to Savanna, Illinois.  The Great River Trail is designated with several signs along the way for ease of navigation.  While the trail is mostly designated for pedestrians and bicyclists use only, there are some shared use roadways.

The Great River Road is the longest scenic byway in America as it travels through Fulton along Highway 84. The Great River Road is a 550-mile route on Illinois' border offering breathtaking views and majestic landscapes. An information kiosk, featuring interpretive text and historical photos, can be found at Den Besten Park near de Immigrant Dutch windmill.

Heritage Canyon

A remnant of the past, this 1800's village was built inside a former rock quarry overlooking the Mississippi River.  Heritage Canyon is a 12-acre wooded nature walk dotted with buildings that take the visitor back to pioneer living.  Stroll through the park following the brick paved paths and yellow arrows.  The canyon features a log cabin settlement, one-room school house, blacksmith shop, church, general store, and much more.  The swinging bridge, a favorite among children, is made of steel-woven cables once used in quarry operations.  All of the buildings house artifacts from times past.   Open April 15 thru December 15, 9am to 5pm.

Lincoln Highway

The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental highway spanning from Times Square in New York City to San Francisco, California. The highway travels through Fulton, Illinois, along US Route 30 and 15th Avenue. An informational gazebo, featuring interpretive text and historical photos, can be found at the corner of 10th Avenue and 3rd Street. The Lincoln Highway spans over 3,100 miles and travels through 14 states.

Three miles north of Fulton along Highway 84
Three miles north of Fulton along Highway 84, thousands of visitors come to view the barges and boats locking through on the widest pool in the Upper Mississippi River Basin. This lock and dam, managed by the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers, is an excellent location to view bald eagles during the winter months. Public lock & dam tours are held Sundays at 1pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Special group tours can be arranged by calling the park rangers.

Ronald Reagan Trail
Fulton is proud to announce its recent addition to the Ronald Reagan Trail. The former U.S. President's ancestral lineage began in Fulton in the mid-1800's. President Ronald Reagan's parents were both born and married in Fulton, Illinois. The former President's father, John Edward Reagan, worked in a dry goods store in downtown Fulton and his mother, Nellie Clyde Reagan, worked as a milliner in Fulton. Several of the former President's relatives including grandparents and aunts and uncles, are buried in the Fulton Catholic Cemetery.

Windmill Cultural Center

Fulton’s newest attraction, the Windmill Cultural Center (WCC), houses an extensive collection of 21 European windmills representing ten European countries. The windmills vary in size between three feet and six feet tall. The collection was designed by Henk and June Hielema of DeMotte, Indiana. Special exhibits will be found at the Windmill Cultural Center throughout the year. Gift shop too. Annan Grist Mill and Melvern Roller Mill
Lincoln Highway, west edge of Morrison, and Felton & Clover Roads near unincorporated village of Malvern
For some great photo opportunities visit either of these historic grist mills; both located on Rock Creek. Built in 1858, the Annan Grist Mill is a 2 1/2 story structure made completely out of stone, located on Lincoln Highway on the west edge of Morrison. The Malvern Roller Mill, also known as Appel Mill, is a 19th century grist mill located near the unincorporated village of Malvern, IL, on Felton and Clover roads. To the west of the mill building is a circa 1890 Pratt truss bridge. The Malvern Roller Mill was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1995. Both mills are privately owned and not open to the public.

Covered Bridge
Illinois Route 30 off of Orange Street
Move over Madison County! Whiteside County now has a covered bridge of its own. Located north of Highway 30 off of Orange St., the bridge is part of a newer road to Morrison-Rockwood State Park. Only its size gives it away that the bridge is, in fact, new construction, built in 2001. At 148 feet, the two-span covered bridge is much larger than those you will find elsewhere.
